IEN Technical Seminar: Anticipating the evolving needs of an ageing population

5.–6. Dezember 2019 | WarsawPolen

The ISSA European Network (IEN) is organizing a Technical Seminar on anticipating the evolving needs of an ageing population, from 5 to 6 December 2019 in Warsaw, hosted by the Social Insurance Institution of Poland (Zaklad Ubezpieczen Spolecznych – ZUS).

Demographic ageing is one of the most important challenges for social security worldwide. As highlighted in the ISSA report on the Ten Global Challenges for Social Security: Europe launched at the Regional Social Security Forum, this challenge is even more acutely felt in the European region.

Population ageing impacts on the sustainability of schemes and the adequacy of benefits paid to the elderly. In addition, important attention has more recently been paid to the evolving service needs of ageing populations, and in particular regarding health care and the need for long-term care services.

Demographic forecasts are key to understanding the scope of the issue and to prepare strategies to meet the multiple social security needs of ageing populations as well as sustainability goals.

This seminar will therefore have two objectives: first, to address the way social security institutions establish and use demographic forecasts, and their importance in driving change in social security policies. It will then also review the impacts of ageing on social security and recent innovative solutions developed throughout Europe to respond.

The IEN Technical Seminar will be held in English and is open to ISSA member organizations from the European region.
