Symposium on Right turn accidents

German conference 'Road traffic'

14 novembre 2013 | HamburgAllemagne

Right turn collisions are a frequent problem for trucks because accidents can occur when pedestrians or bicyclists pass on the right while the truck turns right at a junction. Right turn accidents are often particularly heavy and may end deadly for the involved pedestrian or bicyclist. While the driver is usually not physically injured, the traumatic experience may result in post traumatic stress.

To reflect on the experiences of both parties potentially involved in right turn squeezes, exchange ideas to reduce the number of collisions and discuss current solutions and future developments, representatives from the government, urban planning and management, logistic companies, truck manufacturers, the German Road Safety Council, German bicyclists and kids clubs as well as of scientific institutions met in fall 2013 at the head quarter of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Transport and Traffic (BG Verkehr) in Hamburg.
