INAIL’s innovative communication on prevention and social reintegration through storytelling

In 2010, the National Employment Accident Insurance Institute (Istituto Nazionale per l’Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro – INAIL) adopted a system of incentives for companies that invest in safety at work. Through the Support Incentives to Enterprises (Incentivi di Sostegno alle Imprese – ISI), companies that invest in projects to improve health and safety in the workplace are supported with non-repayable loans provided by INAIL on a regional basis.

The communication campaign “#storiediprevenzione” is based on the creation and production of videos in which some companies that benefited from ISI funding share their experiences. The videos are published on the INAIL portal and social channels.

The technique used is storytelling, which was also used for the project “INAIL beautiful stories” that was launched in 2018. Videos were made of some INAIL beneficiaries who were accident victims at work. They shared their stories in front of the camera, offering authentic narratives of their experiences and contacts with INAIL experts and staff. Through these stories, INAIL’s role in prevention and social reintegration of work accident victims is promoted by the protagonists themselves.
