Rapid growth and innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT) is being used to improve social security services, payment of benefits and the collection of contributions. In many cases this is being achieved by leveraging partnerships with other public and private sector organizations to enhance service quality and extend coverage.

The telecom sector has shown us that mobile phones can be used as tools for receiving cash benefits and paying contributions. Mobile network operators have set up large distribution networks to provide cash-in and cash-out services to consumers, which have the benefits of being fast, simple and cost-effective. Another partnership scenario involves private organizations playing a role in the collection of contributions and benefit payments, which involves sharing data with social security institutions.

Although such initiatives may be successful, they still involve challenges, for example related to data protection, system integration, security with social security systems, contractual arrangements and supervising the transfer of funds.

This webinar will share experiences in public-private partnerships in social security, focussing on partnerships for data sharing and delivering quality services.
