The International Social Security Association, the Inter-American Conference on Social Security, the Ibero-American Organization of Social Security, and the International Labour Organization, based on their common interest to advocate improved social protection policies and administrations, have agreed to celebrate the International Social Security Week 2012 from September 4th to September 6th, in Quito, Ecuador, at an event hosted by Ecuador’s Banking and Insurance Superintendence.

The purpose of the International Social Security Week is to promote dialogue and cooperation at the international level, as well as to encourage the development of inclusive social protection systems based on the Declaration of Guatemala. On this occasion, which will be a follow-up to the first Social Security Week, organized in Mexico City in 2011, the programme will include presentations and discussions on the most relevant and topical issues in the social security arena.

In particular, the event will address the development of proactive and preventive strategies in social security. These approaches, based on providing integrated social benefits and services to the most vulnerable population groups, strongly promote the building of a culture of prevention in social security.
