Identical to corporate entities, social security institutions have the statutory obligation to prepare annual financial and statistical reports. These reports also serve as a principal source of information for decision-making and data for actuarial purposes.

The rules governing the preparation of these reports vary across countries and contexts. Nonetheless, social security institutions as financial and public sector entities are subject to both International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). These are most often domesticated in national financial reporting and public accounting standards as well as the Government Finance Statistics (GFS) and frameworks for statistics on social protection.

While social security contributions and social benefits are accounted for through Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAPs) in keeping with the applicable accounting and financial reporting standards, social security investments generally fall outside the scope of ordinary activities of social security administrations. As such, they warrant adherence to reporting principles and standards applicable to corporate entities.

Join us for this ISSA webinar that will showcase relevant accounting and financial reporting standards applicable to social security institutions at the international and country level and how they are transposed to operational processes of social security schemes with a focus on accounting and financial reporting for social security investments.
