September 2023

Jens Jühling

I am very pleased to present the eNewsletter, September 2023, which contains interesting articles on important issues, such as hazardous substances, Vision Zero and the forthcoming 23rd World Congress for Safety and Health at Work from 27 to 30 November 2023 in Sydney, Australia.

It is really fantastic to see that all the International Prevention Sections of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) are actively involved and promoting Vision Zero. Within six years, Vision Zero has evolved from a campaign to a strategy, that does not only affect occupational safety and health, but also wellbeing at work and environmental protection. In addition the focus has been extended to, among other important issues,  sustainability and supply chains. Today, it is recognized that employees are an integral part of the solution and that educating them in health and safety at work globally pays off for enterprises, no matter the standard of living in the country. Enterprises that prioritize their employees’ protection benefit from a greatly improved trade position.

Several different brochures have been produced and published by the ISSA prevention community recently. Management of Hazardous Substances offers an overview of European legislation in the area of health protection and there is a new presentation on Filling of hazardous substances – Training tool for safety instructions. Also, a new publication is available on nudging for a safe and healthy behaviour, which links well with an interesting article on workplace accidents in Finland.

The countdown for the 23rd World Congress has begun. I would like to thank all ISSA Prevention Sections for their active involvements in the various symposia with a strong motivation to convey their knowledge for prevention. You are the driving force of our work, and I appreciate the reflection and efforts you put in to promote prevention. We are looking forward to a most interesting programme.

The International Media Festival for Prevention 2023 has received a record number (325) of educational and inspiring entries with numerous innovative ideas, new knowledge, state-of-the-art technologies, visual and sound impact. The opportunity to learn new things from media products will certainly motivate everyone to be more attentive and cautious and will enhance problem-solving abilities. By sharing international efforts to improve OSH, we will succeed in building common milestones to create safe workplaces for everyone.

I wish everyone involved in the World Congress great success. I hope to see you there. You can follow all our prevention events and prevention news on the ISSA website.

Yours,
Jens
