New Guidance document on “How to Manage Near Misses”

New Guidance document on “How to Manage Near Misses”

In recent years, near miss reporting systems and investigations have become increasingly important as part of an overall approach to risk management. However, there is little reliable literature available on this subject. In response to this need, the ISSA Electricity Section established a working group in 2019 to develop a guidance document on how to manage near misses.

The new “Guidance on How to Manage Near Misses” is the result of the work of a multinational working group, comprised of members of the ISSA Electricity Section with years of experience in the occupational safety and health field. In addition to providing basic information on the nature of near misses, the guidance document establishes prerequisites for successful near miss reporting, offers advice on how to implement near miss reporting, and on how to manage the data obtained.

The goal of this publication is to provide practical advice on the topic and encourage companies and organizations to implement a robust system for the management of near misses. Effective near miss reporting can form the basis for improving overall health and safety performance, while enhancing a positive safety culture throughout the company. It can contribute to the prevention of work-related accidents and occupational illnesses.

In the publications category you can find the new “Guidance on How to Manage Near Misses” as well as prior publications as the “Guidance for the Management of Health and Safety Performance” and the “Guidance on the Safe Management of Contracts”.
