The ISSA Technical Commission on Medical Care and Sickness Insurance will organize a Technical Seminar on the priority topic of “Adapting social security health care systems to trends in chronic disease”. This important event aimed at senior representatives and technical specialists of social security institutions will be held in Hammamet, Tunisia, on 7 and 8 December 2009 on the invitation of the National Health Insurance Fund of Tunisia.

In view of the rising prevalence of chronic conditions, the agenda will address issues related to chronic disease prevention and early detection as well as to providing cost-effective and quality care for chronic conditions.

The Technical Seminar will provide a unique occasion to exchange on good practices and innovations regarding:

  • Health promotion: what role for social security health-care schemes.
  • Health check-ups: what factors determine utilization and effectiveness.
  • Chronic disease care models and chronic disease management.

In addition to these agenda items, the Technical Seminar will feature the presentation and discussion of the results of a comparative eight-country study undertaken by the Technical Commission on Medical Care and Sickness Insurance on measures to adapt health-care systems to trends in chronic disease.

The event is open to ISSA members and on invitation only. The working languages of the Seminar will be English and French.
