The progressive establishment of Mutual Benefit Society for Public Employees (Mutuelle de la fonction publique – MFP) agencies in Burundi’s provinces encourages a gradual decentralization of services – notably registration, benefit checks and contribution collection – and also promotes the extension of health-care coverage throughout the country.

These occupational accidents represent an economic and social problem for enterprises, their workers and, clearly, for Social Security Institutions who are required to respond with comprehensive safety programmes for workers.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano de Seguridad Social, IMSS) decided to implement this type of programme in enterprises which had already been identified as having high rates of occupational accidents. A Diagnostic Study was undertaken in these enterprises and a standard Programme of Prevention implemented.
