ISSA Guidelines: Information and Communication Technology.

Region: Open primarily to ISSA member organizations in the African region.

Language: English.

What are the goals of the workshop?
Using the ISSA Guidelines on Information and Communication Technology as reference and under the supervision of an accredited expert, this workshop aims to discuss and exchange the skills required to find concrete social security system solutions through the use of ICT.

The participants will exchange knowledge and experiences during the two and a half days of the workshop. Together with colleagues from different institutions and countries, you will explore solutions and strategies.

The workshop addresses two main aspects to corporate use of ICT in social security institutions: the governance and management of ICT-related activities (addressing the implementation and operation of ICT systems) and the application of key technologies for social security systems (enabling integrated, safe and accessible ICT-services, e.g. mobile technologies)

These issues are addressed in the following ISSA Guidelines on Information and Communication Technology:

  • Strategy, planning and innovation prospective (Guideline 3) and operationalizing social security functions through ICT (Guideline 4);
  • ICT-based service delivery (Guidelines 10-15);
  • Interoperability focusing on interoperable shared data services (Guideline 25) and mobile technologies (Guidelines 35-39)

ISSA Guidelines on Information and Communication Technology

The ISSA Guidelines on Information and Communication Technology are dedicated to the use of information and communication technology in social security institutions. As institutions turn to ICT, the goal is the development of solutions that enable them to accomplish their mission, providing high-quality services, satisfying stakeholders and improving efficiency of key processes. Moreover, the challenges resulting from social security’s permanent evolution require a more intensive and sophisticated use of technology in the social security domain. It is however widely recognized that the complexities of ICT systems are increasing but do not always fulfil business results expectations. In addition, the quick evolution of products and their interrelationship can impact negatively on the stability of business processes. These Guidelines constitute a tool to tackle these issues.
