The Virtual Medical Consultation (Teleconsultation) offered by the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social – IESS) is a system which uses information and communication technology to provide health care led by specialist health professionals, as well as to exchange medical information electronically in order to help patients who are not able to attend a consultation in person.
The health facility implements the care provision mode through a Virtual Medical Consultation with a medical specialist for patients who have scheduled an appointment through the Call Center scheduling system and who are not able to visit the health facility for treatment. It is important to note that patients/users in vulnerable groups are given priority for receiving this mode of care.
